How to Be a Happy, Healthy Stay-At-Home Mom
How to Be a Happy, Healthy Stay-At-Home MomHow to Be a Happy, Healthy Stay-At-Home MomLife as a stay-at-home mom is full of interesting moments. Some moments have you feeling like Supermom, others leave you reaching for the aspirin. Take care of your emotional well-being with these simple tips so you can be a happy, healthy stay-at-home mom whos ready to tackle anything. Take Time for Yourself When you first have a child, you automatically want to be with them 24/7. After a while, the walls close in, and you might start gasping for kid-free air. There should be a balance. Mothers hesitate to admit it to anyone, but sometimes we need a mini getaway from our children. Take a walk. Read a book. Go for a drive. Remember the relaxing activities you enjoyed before having kids? Revisit them. You wont have time to knit a sweater in one sitting but every minutes worth of peace will rejuvenate you. Be committed to taking regular breaks away from your children. Its easy to brush off the imp ortance of me time, but its a must to keep you from experiencing ?mommy burnout. Make Time for Your Spouse Part of a healthy mental outlook as an at-home mom comes in sharing quality time with your spouse. Its crucial for your time together to be more than just being in the saatkorn room with one of you staring at the computer and the other flipping through the TV channels. Full-fledged date nights are nice, but theyre not always practical. Try to spend time together at home every day for some face-to-face interaction. Plan activities with your husband that are just for the two of you. Play cards. Talk about your day. Put a puzzle together. You dont have to be whisked away to a deserted island to benefit from alone time with your spouse. Even if the children are around, steal moments together right in front of them. A kiss. A hug. Your kids may pretend to be disgusted, but youre fostering their ideas of what makes a good marriage at the same time youre strengthening your relatio nship with your spouse. Talk to Grown-Ups Your conversation with other adults is severely cut when you stay home with kids all day. Even if you head out to the playground, the discussion topics with your mom friends range from breastfeeding to bowel movements. Get together with other adults for a night out. Brave a weekend vacation with your girlfriends or throw a girls night in party. See if you can leave the conversations about your kids at home. This is a big challenge when youre out with friends who are also parents. Set a few rules beforehand, so youre not spending all of your adult time discussing report cards and trying to top each other with gross-out stories. Think of your conversations with adults as your structured playgroup for your mind. Its hard to keep your social skills sharp when youre talking to your children all day. As much as we love our kids, its still important to talk to grown-ups too. Brag About Your Job You must be too lazy to work. You wear your pa jamas all day while watching soap operas. You probably dont even brush your hair. At-home moms certainly know this is far from reality. Unfortunately, theres still a certain stigma attached to the stay-at-home job title. You will run across people who act completely unimpressed by your commitment to stay home and raise your children. How will you react when asked, What do you do for a living? You may take that long, awkward pause before you answer. Dont let someone elses jaded views affect your self-esteem. Be proud of your stay-at-home mom career. If youre nervous when someone asks what you do, show off those social skills youve been practicing without the kids around. Tell people youre the CEO of SAHM, Inc. or the Operations Manager of the Smith Household. Your answer will break the ice, and youll be the witty SAHM everyone remembers. Create a Time Management Plan We joke that mommys brain has dumbed us down. In reality, our head is swimming from a schedule packed with soccer practices, naps, and kiddie bathroom breaks. No wonder we cant remember anything. Were too busy trying to remember everything. Create a realistic time management plan to get better organized and simplify your day. This will also free you from that constant stress of thinking youre forgetting something on your mental calendar. Thats a fehlte nicht viel way to brain drain. Celebrities dont bother trying to remember everywhere they have to be on their own, and youre much busier than they are. A time management plan is like your personal assistant, and youre the rock star with a small, sometimes screaming, entourage.

How to End an Interview With a Job Candidate
How to End an Interview With a Job Candidate How to End an Interview With a Job Candidate For some hiring managers, figuring out how to close an interview can be tricky. As the interview winds down, you can bring it to a graceful close by following these steps: 1. Let the candidate ask questions Before closing the interview, an important step in the interview process is to provide an opportunity for the individual to ask any questions he or she may have. 2. Let the candidate know what comes next Advise the candidate how and when you're going to be in contact and whether any further steps need to be taken - forms, tests and so on. In addition to being a common courtesy, this interview closing practice creates a positive impression. 3. End the interview on a formal but sincere note Thank the candidate for the time and repeat your commitment to follow up. Either stand or shake hands again. This action is a way of formally closing the interview and provides a signal for the candidate to leave. Walk the applicant out of the office to the elevator lobby or front door. Robert Half has been doing the heavy lifting when it comes to hiring since 1948. Let us take on the time-consuming steps and the administrative details of bringing a new person on board. HIRING? LET US HELP! After closing the interview Knowing how to close an interview includes knowing what to do once the face-to-face discussion ends. As soon as possible after the candidate's departure, take some time to collect your thoughts and summarize your impressions in notes. You don't need to make any definitive decisions at this point, but recording your impressions immediately after the interview closing - while they're still fresh in your mind - will help you immeasurably if the final choice boils down to several candidates of comparable qualifications. Learning effective methods about how to close an interview is best perfected through practice. As you meet with more job candidates, the simple tips listed above will make closing the interviews much easier and ensure that the candidates know what to expect going forward. With practice, every business owner can conduct outstanding interviews - and end them on a positive note at just the right time. Tags

Air Force Stressed Job Listing
Air Force Stressed Job Listing Air Force Stressed Job Listing The U.S. Air Forces Non-Commissioned Officer Retraining Program (NCORP) will allow veteran airmen (E-5 and above) who have re-enlisted at least once to retrain into undermanned job specialties in 2019. These undermanned specialties are referred to as stressed jobs. Airmen applying for such jobs must already be in career fields that are adequately manned. Staff sergeants applying must have less than 12 years of active duty, and E-7s and E-8s must have fewer than 16 years of service to be eligible to retrain under the NCORP. DefinitionThe Air Force publishes stressed jobs each spring after it examines all enlisted and commissioned officer jobs and assigns stress ratings.Stress is driven by three main factors: manpower, manning, and deployments. The driving force is different for each career field, but when a career field is stressed, it means there are not enough people to adequately carry out the assigned mission. The stress levels provide Air Force leadership with an objective, single means to measure Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) jobs. The results serve as an indicator of problems- not an absolute statement of problems. The formula provides a starting point to pick out abnormalities. It also allows Air Force leadership to measure progress. The stress level is assigned based on these parameters:A stress level of 1.0 means there is no deployment or home station shortfall.A stress level greater than 1.0 means there is a shortfall. The shortfall is expressed as a percentage of assigned personnel. Fo r example, a stress-level rating of 1.2 means that each person at a home station, on average, is doing the work of 1.2 people. A stress level lower than 1.0 means there is a surplus. The surplus is expressed as a percentage of assigned personnel. For example, a stress-level rating of 0.8 means that each person at a home station, on average, is doing the work of 0.8 people.Air Force GoalsThe Air Force has a goal of trying to achieve a stress level of 1.2 or less for each AFSC job. Just because a job is considered stressed, does not necessarily mean that the job has openings for new recruits. The AFSC may be adequately manned in the first-termer (new recruits) ranks but considered stressed because of a shortage in the noncommissioned officer (NCO) ranks. Even if the stress is caused or partially caused by a shortage of personnel in the first-termer ranks, available training seats come into play. Air Force technical schools can train only so many students at any given time, and all the projected training slots already may be filled by people already in the Delayed Enlistment Program (DEP), or already in the Air Force, but awaiting a training slot.Increasing the number of training slots available is generally not a viable option. Adding more slots means adding more resources. More instructors must be added, dormitory space would need to be added, support personnel would need to be increased, chow halls expanded, etc. This process is neither cheap nor fast. The se are the top stressed jobs in the Air Force, as of 2019:AFSCCareer FieldSlots Available for 2018-193p0Security forces3181B411 Cyber warfare operations career field 2093F211 Education and training career field1561C311 Command post-career field124 4N051F Aerospace medical service job1161A111Flight engineer field1151a911Special missions aviation field- Gunner AC1301084N051FFlight and operational medicine technicians914N051C Independent duty medical technicians59

New parents fail to teach kids about finance says study
New parents fail to teach kids about finance says study New parents fail to teach kids about finance says study According to a new survey conducted by CreditCards.com and Yougov of 2,694 U.S. adults, roughly one in four adults say their parents didnât teach them basic lessons regarding money.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Laddersâ magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more! The bills and the feesThe kinds of lessons learned about money reported by 75% of respondents that actually got them were wide-ranging and informed by several interesting factors. Sixty-five percent were taught about the importance of saving, while 45% learned how to wisely spend their income. Thirty-eight percent learned about giving, and around a quarter learned how to borrow. A comparatively small minority of 22% of adults surveyed reported receiving lectures from their parents about investing. The gender of the child seemed to govern the character of advice given. For example, female adults reported being taught about the importance of giving much more than m ale respondents (40% vs. 35%). The latter of which was taught the value of investing much more frequently (25% vs. 19%).Psychologist Debra A. Kaplan was asked to provide some insights on these âalarmingâ findings, the bulk of which was featured in the report itself. âWomen are so afraid of money, and they believe their financial illiteracy is a permanent status.â Kaplan went on to say that baby boomer women were often taught that financial altruism would endear them to a partner as opposed to being instructed on investing their money and achieving monetary independence. These numbers were additionally influenced by generation. The trend noted in the new report seems to suggest an upward trend of fiscal tutelage within families, considering Millennials were found to be taught about money a lot more frequently than the generation the precedes them. A mere 17% of baby boomers said their parents gave them the bills and the fees talk, compared to 26% of respondents between the a ges of 23 and 38. Not this has yielded any obvious results. In The Millennial Economy 2018 survey, published by Ernst and Young, a third of the 1,200 young adult respondents featured sad that they expected their financial situation to be better than their parents, despite this scenario being fairly atypical. The value of a dollarMany parents attempt to instill valuable fiscal lessons by instating an allowance system, or they used to anyway. When surveyed on the matter in the report that debuted just this past Wednesday, less than half of American children under the age of 18 reported receiving an allowance. Barri Segal of Creditcards.com summarizes in the paper, âU.S. parents with children under 18 revealed only 40 percent of those kids get an allowance. And 1 in 4 respondents said their parents gave them no education on money topics while they were growing up.âOf the lucky few that got an allowance, the median amount was about four dollars a week, with the majority of this de mographic said they began to give their kid an allowance when they reached the age of eight. Sixty-one percent of parents paid their children in cash, which makes sense, but 10% paid their children with a cash app like Venmo, an additional 10% opts for to pay their child through a bank transfer, 10% use debit cards, and the remaining 9% reported providing their child with an allowance in another undisclosed manner. Ted Rossman, who is the senior industry analyst at Creditcards.com, closed the report with the following:âWhether or not you choose to give your child an allowance is a personal decision, but you absolutely need to find ways to teach them about money. The subject is woefully undertaught by most schools, and personal finance is a critical life skill. As early as preschool, I recommend talking to your kids about things like needs versus wants, where money comes from and the value of a dollar.âYou might also enjoy⦠New neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happy Strangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds 10 lessons from Benjamin Franklinâs daily schedule that will double your productivity The worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs 10 habits of mentally strong people

6 Types of Figurative Language for Better Writing
6 Types of Figurative Language for Better Writing 6 Types of Figurative Language for Better Writing Figurative language, such as metaphors and personification, deviates from the literal meaning of words for the sake of more interesting writing. It evokes comparison, heightens emphasis, and clarifies a new way of stating an idea or description. The term figuratively speaking derives from figurative language, just as literally speaking means something that actually happened. As a fiction writer, you probably already use figurative language in your stories and novels. The six main types of figurative language are used for different purposes, and understanding their strengths helps you to use each of them to their greatest possible effect. Examples follow each explanation. 01Simile duncan1890 / Getty Images A pun is a form of wordplay that takes advantage of words that have similar pronunciations or multiple meanings. Samuel Johnson, a witty and renowned British literary figure of the 18th century, called puns the lowest form of humor, while director Alfred Hitchcock praised them as the highest form of literature. Whether you find them tacky, inelegant, or wildly amusing, puns are everywhere. When used sparingly, they can add whimsy and wit to your stories. Shakespeare is the undisputed master of the literary pun.âNow is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this sun of York.â - William Shakespeare, Richard IIIA little more than kin, and less than kind. - William Shakespeare, Hamlet

The Essential Roles Within a Project Management Team
The Essential Roles Within a Project Management Team The Essential Roles Within a Project Management Team The types of projects that professional project managers run are usually large scale and complicated. They require the input of many people, including you as project manager. Roles Within a Professional Project Management Team The following roles typically make up a professional project management team: Project Sponsor Often in a large organization, a high-level person, possibly a senior manager or director, will act as the project sponsor. This role can often be like the working relationship a chairman of a company would take with a CEO: that of critical friend/moral support/key communicator to a variety of audiences (taking on the appropriate role depending on the context). But the role is slightly more complex than this. The project sponsor is your advocate at the highest level, working with you more closely than anyone else in the senior management team. They present your progress to the senior management and are responsible, with you, for the success or otherwise of the project. They have a wider view of what is going on across the organization as a whole and can see where the project fits into the bigger picture. They will be able to steer the project to achieve its goals as set out by the senior management and within the context of the organizationâs direction of travel. They can make arrangements for additional resources to be made available and open doors which may be shut to you as project manager due to your relative lack of seniority. Essentially the project sponsor exists to take ownership of the business opportunity or need and take it forward to ensure the issues are dealt with and the benefits realized while being able to resolve matters outside of the control of the project manager. Project Manager The project manager is the center of this project. They need to know what the goals are, and where this fits in the bigger picture while at the same time having a handle on much of the detail at every stage. This person is the planner (including maintaining the Gantt chart), the organizer and implementer and the one who has to have the project management skills to ensure everything, including success, is measured and reported accurately. Finally, they need to be an objective judge of much of what is going on, while at the same time being at the subjective heart of all which is happening. Project Customer/Client This is the person who is responsible for paying for the work. Often this is the team responsible for the problem or opportunity the project has been established to look at. They are the people with most to gain from the project, hence it is their budget which is at risk. Suppliers When your project requires niche skill sets, these are often found outside of your organizationâs in-house staff. Materials required for a project often also come from outside your organizationâ"whether paper stock, asphalt or aerial photography drones. These additional skills or materials will often be vital to the success of a project. Not having the correct professional or the bricks arriving too late (or early) can have a detrimental effect on the success of your project. The Project Board The groups mentioned prior usually form the Project Board. The board usually has key people who can be seen to represent the different interests in the project. These are often viewed in groups made up of: Supplier groupsUser groups The board is usually chaired by the project sponsor and is the forum where the project is driven forward to a conclusion. The project manager is part of this group and uses it to communicate with these key stakeholders, report back and take direction on how the project needs to develop. Project Coordinator Big projects may also benefit from a project coordinator to help with the admin. This ensures the mundane, yet vital, tasks get done. This can cover minutes of meetings, invoicing, or the stationery order. Project managers can sometimes be tempted to just do these simple tasks themselves, but each can be a drain on time. You should be managing the project, not managing the admin - that is an important skill set, but project managers should know when to delegate.

Cultural Fit The Real Reason You Didnt Get the Job
Cultural Fit The Real Reason You Didnât Get the Job Cultural Fit The Real Reason You Didnât Get the Job Culture clash between you and a company that could potentially hire you is a real concern. What is company cultural fit? At its most basic, cultural fit is the way a workplace functions and how employees behave. For example, a company culture can be laidback, strict, easygoing, or collaborative. When receiving a job rejection, you might wrack your brain as to why you werenât selected. Perhaps you didnât have the ideal qualifications. Maybe you didnât have the right education. Or maybe you and the company werenât a great cultural fit. The hiring manager might not have felt your personality and the company culture worked well together. But itâs also possible that you just didnât demonstrate how compatible you and the company could have been. Here weâll give you advice about how to pinpoint a companyâs culture, and use that information to your advantage through the hiring process. First, research your dream companyâs culture. To learn about a companyâs values, find them on social media and set up news alerts. After that, follow company employees on social media and strike up virtual conversations with them. If you make a strong connection with someone online, set up an informational interview with them to learn more about the company. Youâll be able to ask questions about culture more freely to a potential peer, rather than a boss. Brief your references on your ideal companyâs culture so they can speak to how you fit into that culture. Your references are your advocates. Brief them on the company culture where youâre applying so they can speak to how youâd be a good fit. If the company is looking for a self-motivated worker, you can tell your references to mention how task-oriented you were in completing a big project. If the company is looking for someone who is friendly, you can tell your reference to talk about the birthday parties you threw for fellow staff. Once youâve figured out the companyâs values, tailor specific interview answers to speak about those qualities. You know those off-the-wall questions you sometimes get in interviews? Those are designed for you to indirectly address your fit with company culture, so be prepared. A lot of hiring managers ask strange questions so youâll speak about your creativity and innovative thinking. Others ask questions to ascertain your passion for working for their particular company. Questions about teamwork are looking for you to answer about how well you collaborative and/or how well you work alone. You should know what the company wants in all of these areas before you head into the interview. This way you can tailor your answers to demonstrate youâll fit right into their company culture. Tailor your resume to include language that describes your personal branding. Skills and abilities arenât always enough to demonstrate to a company youâd be a good fit. Once youâve figured out a companyâs culture, highlight qualities that are relevant to them in your resume. Use accomplishment statements to talk about team-building activities you spearheaded in your last company. Mention that youâve worked as a mentor for children for years. If you tailor your resume to the exact language on the job description using Jobscanâs resume optimizer, youâre that much more likely to be picked for an interview, not only because youâve proven youâd fit in well, but also because a tailored resume is more likely to make it through Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and into hiring managersâ hands.

Heres why you cant hit home runs every time
Hereâs why you canât hit home runs every time Hereâs why you canât hit home runs every time I recently had a conversation with my new publisher about the book Iâm currently writing. I asked, âWhat would make this book a home run for you?â (Iâm not a baseball fan, but I am a fan of baseball analogies). He replied, âThere are no home runs in publishing, Ozan. Just singles and doubles.âI canât tell you how much I love this response. For all my life, Iâve been trying to hit home runs, but end up feeling dismayed when I inevitably come up short. As obvious as it is, this realization came as a huge relief: Itâs impossible to hit home runs every time you step up to the plate. Whatâs more, you donât need to hit a home run every time you step up to the plate. But donât take it from me. Remember the Amazon Fire phone? The company lost $170 million over that gigantic misfire. Or even better, the Google Glass? It was supposed to be the next best thing after the smartphone, but ended up as an embarrassing failure. This was one piece of technology that was decid edly uncool to sport: People wearing it were branded âglassholes.â These products feel like a distant memory now. When we look at successful businesses like Amazon and Google, we remember the highlights, not the lowlights. As Jeff Bezos says, âA few big successes compensate for dozens and dozens of things that didnât work.âPut differently, you must kiss a lot of frogs before you find the prince.Speaking of princes, Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors. Heâs made over a hundred movies, and he says âseven or eight were good, a dozen more are decent, and the rest are god awful.â But we donât remember the crappy Tom Hanks movies (yes, Iâm talking about Turner and Hooch). We remember Philadelphia, Big, and Apollo 13.Adam Grant gives several additional examples in his book, Originals. Shakespeare is known for a small number of his classics, but in the span of two decades, he penned 37 plays and 154 sonnets, some of which have been âconsistently slammed for unpolis hed prose and incomplete plots and character development.â Picasso produced 1,800 paintings, 1,200 sculptures, 2,800 ceramics, and 12,000 drawings, only a fraction of which are noteworthy. Just a handful of Einsteinâs 248 publications had real impact. But when we judge the greatness of these individuals,â Grant writes, âwe focus not on their averages, but their peaks.âThereâs a passage that I love in the private notes of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (published posthumously as Meditations). From 2,000 years ago, he writes: âDonât go expecting Platoâs Republic; be satisfied with even the smallest progress, and treat the outcome of it all as unimportant.â Arguably the most powerful man at the time is reassuring himself that itâs okay to not be Plato, that he canât hit home runs every time.If thatâs not amazing, I donât know what is.Consistent home runs are not only impossible, but trying to hit a home run every time can cripple the batter. This was the Achilles heel of the great tennis player Andre Agassi. As he explains in his autobiography, Open, one of his trainers told him: âYou try to hit a winner on every ball, when just being steady, consistent, meat and potatoes, would be enough to win ninety percent of the time. . . . Thereâs about five times a year you wake up perfect, when you canât lose to anybody, but itâs not those five times a year that make a tennis player. Or a human being, for that matter. Itâs the other times.âThe question I asked my publisher was flawed. Life isnât about repeatedly hitting home runs. Rather, itâs about strikeouts, singles, and doubles, until we slowly, but steadily, reach home base.Ozan Varol is a rocket scientist turned law professor and bestselling author.
